Our Mission
Vallarta Bookmobile is committed to work internationally with organizations and individuals to help rural children in Mexico gain the much-needed access to books to spark the love of reading that could change their lives forever.
Why They Need Our Help
The majority of rural children in the Puerto Vallarta, Mexico area are at a disadvantage due to a lack of access to books. In the United States there is 1 public library for every 18,000 people. Additionally, every school has a library. In the Puerto Vallarta area there is only 1 public library for 350,000 people and the public schools do not have a lending libraries. As you can imagine, the underprivileged people in rural areas don't have the economic resources to get to the public library.
Think back to when you were a child and you would sit in your parents lap listening to them read from colorful books. Think about your first library card and the excitement of opening a new book and exploring a new world. Underprivileged rural children in Mexico do not grow up in that culture of reading. Most people agree that reading is not only entertaining but is also one of the best skills you can have to succeed in the world.

Our Approach
We are currently serving the children who live in and around the city dump. These are some of the poorest children in the Puerto Vallarta area. Their families make their living digging through the trash and selling anything and everything they can. Click here to see some of the pictures of the children enjoying reading and checking out books from the Vallarta Bookmobile http://www.youtube.com/vallartbookmobile
We are looking for volunteers who would like to adopt a neighborhood or community. Our goal is to provide books and supplies for these volunteers so that their time and effort can be used working directly with the children of their community. With the Bookmobile being used by many different volunteer groups, thousands of children will have access to books and will be able to develop the love of reading.
